About Daniel:

Daniel Macke was born into a musical family (albeit to two percussionists) and his musical endeavors span over six decades beginning with playing the violin at age seven. His family holds a violin dating from 1725 that is known to have been in the family’s care for at least 175 years, but the guitar became his prime focus from age 10 until present. While in High School he played electric guitar in several Rock and Roll and Blues bands in the Bay Area; survived a stint playing hollow body electric in a jazz band; played in several Blue Grass bands while living in Oregon, one of which won “Best Musical Group” at the Oregon State Fair. He has played in numerous small groups as well as orchestral performances throughout his career.

Daniel studied music theory in college and writes most of what he performs on 6 & 12 String Guitar and Mandocello. He describes his music as predominantly ‘Folked-up Classical’, and his compositions have strong classical roots, but with influences from the other genres from his musical experience. His music for guitar is inspired by the talents of Leo Kottke and the late great Michael Hedges; while Chris Thiele and Béla Fleck’s creative mastery have inspired his mandolin work. (Daniel used to play banjo—hence Béla’s influence—but his banjo gave up on the relationship.)

Daniel does also sing, and will share that in his upcoming performances featuring some covers (by Dylan, Waits, Johnny Flynn, and others) as well as his own ‘worded songs.’

Daniel’s music philosophy: “Everything in our human experience is influenced by frequency. Our ancestors were much more in tune with the positive blessings of music’s healing power. Our world today is unfortunately seeing much more of the negative aspects—even in music. My musical expression reaches for those healing tones, with a touch of humor, but ultimately to create an opportunity to relax, to be inspired, and with a measure of grace, to be held by those harmonies.”
